I was really skeptical to buy this item. I have seen so many reviewer show it but most reviewers lack details pertinent to what I was looking for. For me, the chain sharpener should be able to be precise and consistent. The Oregon 410-120 does a tremendous job at sharpening, better than my hand sharpening. In fact it exceeded my expectations when I just had a chain in the saddle track and studying angles, tolerances, accuracy, and general layout when while shadowing the chain I grazed a tooth with my finger and didn't know it until I saw blood running all over. I didn't even know I was cut, it was that sharp. On the contrary, setting the depth has to be the worst area of design. I tried to establish a point off which I could go 0.025 but found out my set up was terrible because I probably went closer to 0.035, part of that is the slop in the stop mechanism and the consistency of hand force upon the grip. The slop is my biggest pet peeve and depth setting is second. Since, I have found a better way to do depth and hope someone else benefits. First, mark the depth adjustment knurls every 4th one. Then take the sharpie and mark a line from center of adjusting know to just one of the marks on the knurls. This provides a great quick reference. Now, all I do when setting depth is run the wheel down to the very top of the cutter, remembering to maintain CONSISTANT hand pressure I then adjust the stop to that dimension. From there, I now just turn the stop adjustment **** so the line I made moves right about 10 minutes (I know 10 minutes because I measured how for the wheel moves per rotation of stop ****, for me it moves 0.025) that gives me right at 0.023 inches which barring any inconsistency I am usually no more than 0.025 but more consistency 0.023. Now I don't have a chain that chatters but still cuts tremendously fast. I guess overall, having learned the peculiars of the 410, it is a great tool for quickly and consistently getting chains sharpened to back out and fell timber. For inquiries, I still run a Husqvarna 257 with 24" bar, 3/8 x 0.050 chain for quick bucking and 572XP with a 24" with full house or 36" bar, 3/8 skip on 0.050 chain for felling
