I’ve been running the Pfanner PROTOS-ORGR Protos Helmet for a while now and it’s one of the better forestry helmets I’ve used. Everything feels integrated and well thought out. The ear protection folds up neatly into the shell when you don’t need it, and the face shield tucks away cleanly too, so nothing is sticking out or catching on branches.
Comfort is where this helmet really stands out. The suspension system spreads the weight evenly and it stays balanced even after several hours of cutting. The adjustment system is simple and holds its setting well, which is important when you’re moving around a lot or wearing it all day. Ventilation is also better than most helmets I’ve tried, so it doesn’t feel overly hot even during warmer days.
Build quality is excellent. The shell feels solid without being heavy, and the integrated components feel like they’ll hold up to real work instead of feeling like add-ons. It’s definitely a premium helmet and priced that way, but if you spend a lot of time running a saw it’s one of those pieces of gear that’s worth the investment. Comfortable, durable, and very well designed.
